Why We Started Gadget Lifespan

Most gadget blogs are written by people who’ve never opened a device in their life. They rewrite spec sheets and press releases and call it a review. Gadget Lifespan started because we wanted something different: a site built on real, hands-on experience with how electronics actually fail, and how long they actually last.

Our background is in building software for the repair industry itself, tools used by repair shops to manage the devices that come through their doors every day. That vantage point taught us things you don’t get from a press release. Which phone models have chronic battery problems. Which laptop hinges crack first. Which “premium” gadgets die right after the warranty ends. And which budget devices quietly outlast their expensive rivals.

Gadget Lifespan exists to put that knowledge in front of everyday buyers, before they make a purchase, and again when they’re standing in front of a broken device wondering whether it’s worth fixing.

What We Cover

  • Repair vs. replace cost breakdowns
  • Common failure points by brand and model
  • Durability-focused buying guides
  • DIY repair guides for fixes that are genuinely worth doing
  • Realistic lifespan expectations for phones, laptops, routers, and smart home devices

Our Approach

We’re not chasing launch-day hype cycles. Our goal is to help you understand how a device performs over its entire life, not just in the first unboxing week, so you can make a decision based on real value, not marketing.

Editorial Independence

Gadget Lifespan may earn revenue through advertising (including Google AdSense) and affiliate links on product recommendations. This doesn’t influence our editorial opinions. Recommendations and failure-point information are based on our own research, industry experience, and publicly available data. Where a post contains affiliate links, we’ll disclose that clearly.
